He later served as president and board member of Continuous Curve Contact Lens, Inc., an industry-leading public company that was acquired by Revlon in 1980.

Jim began a private investment program after his tenure at Continuous Curve before co-founding Enterprise Partners in 1985. In his years with the firm, he has served as the lead on more than thirty portfolio companies, including Primary Access Corporation (sold to 3Com), Elgar Electronics, Risk Data Corporation and Applied Digital Access.

Before his career in eye care and venture capital, Jim was a member of the Counter Intelligence Corps of the US Army. Currently, he and his wife Mary are involved in numerous philanthropic and civic activities in La Jolla and Southern California. They are supporters of the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art and Jim is a Trustee of Pacific University.
