Pirelli Trials Persona for FMC

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and MILAN, Italy -- Persona Software, Inc., the world's leading developer of SIP-based Personal Mobility Applications that radically improve the mobile user experience, announced today that Pirelli Broadband Solutions, one of Europe's premier broadband access and photonic solutions providers, and Pirelli Labs, the group's R&D centre of excellence, has completed a successful trial of the Persona OnePhone™ Personal Mobility Application for Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) using Pirelli Broadband Solutions' Discus™ access gateways.

Persona OnePhone enables mobile users to roam seamlessly between WiFi and cellular networks with one phone, one identity, and one phone number. With Persona OnePhone, mobile users can access advanced IP voice features anywhere, anytime, plus a new world of advanced "Personal Mobility Applications" that provide road warriors and consumers with unprecedented convenience, productivity, control, and savings.

Persona OnePhone is the only network-based FMC solution using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) standard, which has been embraced by service providers worldwide and is at the heart of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). Persona OnePhone is in trials with leading carriers and service providers worldwide.

Pirelli selected Persona OnePhone for its trial using the advanced Pirelli wireless VoIP router family after evaluating a number of competing approaches. Pirelli chose Persona's OnePhone because it is the only SIP-based approach to FMC; the only solution that provides seamless handoff between WiFi and cellular network both when calls are in progress and when they are not; and the only solution that met Pirelli's stringent WLAN security requirements, with support for integrated firewall and VPN (IPSEC) technologies. Furthermore, Persona Software's approach will also enable Pirelli to add enhanced Personal Mobility Applications as it rolls out future 3G networks based on IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS).
